Ghana female international Gifty Ayew Asare has questioned the Ghana Football Association’s commitment to developing women’s football.
The 23-year-old feels perturbed by by lack of investment and proper structures in female football in the West African nation.
Ayew, a former player for American side Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa Mavericks, wants the Ghanaian football governing body to improve investment in women’s football.
“How can our women’s football in Ghana move forward? If a player get a club outside and her team she’s playing in Ghana decides not to allow her to go? How do we give our female players good exposures? If she gets a club outside and her club in Ghana says we should think about her education?
“Is education here in Ghana helping us the female Footballers in Ghana? How do we get them opportunities? If the club she’s playing for here in Ghana says she is our player and she don’t need any opportunity from her senior colleague player? Like I need help please?
“I don’t understand but what is the aim of a female player in Ghana, playing for a club here in Ghana and earns nothing or not more than 500gh pay. Also what is your aim as a female player in Ghana playing for a club in Ghana and after a season you don’t have a video or highlight of you. What is the aim of you as a player if you play a female league in Ghana here and after, no national call up, nor any offers from outside Ghana? Well I don’t know if I’m asking good questions but I sincerely need answers…………
“Because I know we female footballers in Ghana here are really suffering, we ain’t enjoying our benefits, from the massive effort and hard work we put in for our clubs I think we really deserves better!,” Gifty Ayew wrote on her Facebook wall.
