Ghanaian boxer Samuel Takyi will pocket $3,000 for winning a bronze medal for Ghana at the 2020 Olympic Games.
The 20-year-old becomes the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic Games medal since 1992 and the first Ghanaian boxer since Munich 1972 to a medal at the global games.
Though Takyi succumbed to a 4-1 loss to a rather more experienced American fighter Duke Ragan he beat Colombian David Avila Ceiber in the quarter-finals after defeating Ecuadorian Carlos Caicedo to advance from the preliminary stage.
The Disciplinary Gym boxer will now pocket the cash for his hard work and dedication to the sport and continues to enjoy goodwill from the Ghanaian boxing fraternity who cheered him during his fights at the games in the Eastern Asian nation.
