England-born Ghanaian teenager Paul Appiah has won the English FA Youth Cup trophy with Aston Villa.
Villa’s U18 side defeated a Liverpool U18 side that featured youngster Jarrel Quansah 2-1 on Monday to win the ultimate crown of the season.
The Young Lions made a dream start when Ben Chrisene picked out the bottom corner with a fierce drive in the opening minutes.
Backed by a passionate home support, Villa doubled their lead in the 11th minute when Brad Young, who was felled in the box, coolly converted from the penalty spot.
Liverpool substitute Melkamu Frauendorf set up a grandstand finish with a goal after 73 minutes, but Villa, competing in their first Final of the prestigious competition since 2010, held on to secure the club’s fourth FA Youth Cup.
Appiah was born to Ghanaian parents in the United Kingdom and started his career early with the Chelsea academy but later left to join Villa.
