Portuguese trainer Mariano Barreto has suggested he will not be in charge of Ghanaian Premier League giants Asante Kotoko next season.
The 64-year-old tells Kumasi-based Nhyira FM that he cannot continue as head coach of the former African champions under current conditions.
“It would be an insult on me to continue as head coach of Kotoko in the same conditions I’ve already complained about. There are other coaches out there who will be happy to work in these conditions at Kotoko but not me,” he told Nhyira FM.
The former Ghana Olympic Team head coach was appointed in March 2021 to replace Maxwell Konadu who was fired in December 2020.
“Asante Kotoko is a big name and not a big team,” he told Nhyira FM.
Barreto was appointed to replace Maxwell Konadu at Kotoko in March 2021.
He was tasked by the Nana Yaw Amponsah led management to win the Ghana Premier League, as well as perform creditably in CAF interclub football as well as lift the MTN FA Cup but the controversial trainer could not achieve any of the target.
