Great Olympics coach Annor Walker has revealed receiving a midnight phone call from midfield talisman Gladson Awako who wanted to leave the Accra-based side.
The 64-year-old told Benedict Kwadwo Mensah on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Morning Show the former TP Mazembe and Phoenix Rising star called him around 11pm to rescind his decision to leave the club.
“One day I was lying in bed late in the night and I received a phone call. When I answered it was Awako and he told me he had rescinded his decision to leave the club,” he said.
The 2015 CAF Champions League winner decided to leave the Wonder Club before the start of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season and the club’s hierarchy had given up on keeping the midfielder.
Walker was tasked to attempt to convince Awako to stay at the club and he reveals he explained to the player why he needed him to remain at the club.
“I convinced Awako that I was going to make him a national star and make him play for the national team again,” he revealed.
