Spokesperson of Division One League side Tema Youth Football Club Collins Odoom has described Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku as a tyrant and claims erstwhile President of the Ghanaian football governing body Kwesi Nyantakyi was far better.
Tema Youth, former Ghana Premier League campaigners, were hoping to stage a return to the Ghanaian top-flight but have narrowly missed out in Zone III after Accra Lions finished top of the table.
However there is controversy in the zone after the appeals committee of the Ghana FA applied article 13 differently in cases involving Amidaus Professionals vs the Ghana FA and Phar Rangers vs the Ghana FA where both clubs were deemed to have withdrawn from the league.
The Appeals Committee in the case involving Amidaus Professionals vs the Ghana FA exercised its discretion in their decision not to award points any club scheduled to play or played against the Tema-based club which did not start the league season due to their failure to register players. The club later registered players during the second registration window and started playing matches but were later expelled by the GFA from the competition. The Disciplinary Committee initially awarded points to all clubs scheduled to play against Amidaus Professionals per article 13(5) of the Division One League regulations but the Appeals Committee exercised its discretion to quash the decision of the DC and said no club in Zone III should be awarded points from the Amidaus Professionals case.
Tema Youth were hoping for a similar outcome in the case involving Phar Rangers vs the Ghana FA but the Appeals Committee rather opted to apply article 13(5) and awarded points to clubs which were scheduled to play against the Akuapem-Mampong-based club.
If the Appeals Committee had ruled just like in the case of Amidaus Professionals 6 points would have been deducted from Accra Lions with Tema Youth losing only 4 points which could have helped the Harbour Boys to secure promotion.
The club feels the Kurt Okraku led GFA administration has targeted the club due to their frosty relationship with bankroller of the club Wilfred Osei Kwaku. Spokesperson of the club Collins Odoom has described the FA President as a tyrant.
“If you lead an administration and you’re unable to bring all members together but you target some members as a means of settling personal scores then you’re a tyrant,” Odoom told Dan Kwaku Yeboah on Peace FM.
He further revealed that the club is prepared to push for justice even if they have to petition the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“If we exhaust all the international judiciary channels and we still don’t get the justice we are seeking, we will petition CAS. Accra Lions have not qualified to the Premier League so they should take note of that,” he added.
